Surpass The Ceiling

Surpass The Ceiling

Jan 3, 2018 | Posted by Design Services Admin | Others' Experiences |

Over the past decade working in the corporate world, I’ve learned many humbling lessons but one in particular I wanted to share is the importance of taking your destiny into your own hands. What exists today in business, may not be relevant tomorrow. How you’re doing something today, may not be how it should continue to be done for optimal efficiency. We see this all of the time in today’s world with the likes of brands such as: Uber, AirBnB, Amazon and Apple.

I’ve had the unique opportunity, even in a traditional corporate work environment, to propose, create and hold never before established positions based on identifying a business need paired with my strengths and interests.

Working for a visionary and entrepreneur has been an inspiration and signal to me that I can take that same spirit and curiosity, even in a corporate setting with set procedures and levels of management, to be able to ignite my own spark. Nearly every role I’ve held in my 10 years has not existed before I came along. I say that not to brag but hopefully to show others that if you think outside of the box and believe in an opportunity, you never know what can come from challenging the status quo. The role I’m in now was a project turned full-time role with the possibility of being a new revenue stream for our business. I’m able to have autonomy to be creative in its business plan and path and while I have access to certain shared resources, I also have to prove the potential in this venture so in many ways this is almost like a startup inside of a business. So I challenge you to be an entrepreneur, in whatever way, shape or form that comes in. The only real ceiling we have, is the one we allow to exist.
