Obstacles Create Your Highlight Reel
“So if you’re in the middle of the shit right now, don’t quit.”
Those times that bring us to our knees, bend us to the breaking point and cause the most pain will become the foundation of the greatest version of ourselves.
We all have bad times, and they seem endless when we’re stuck. Life seems too big, too hard, too sad, too mean, too cruel, too much, too…..everything. When faced with such circumstances, it seems like you’re hit over and over again, without mercy. How you react in these times determines everything important about your future life. Obstacles, while awful and seemingly needless, smack us in the face with brutal honesty, but only if we’re willing to listen. This raw clarity reveals important truths that propel us forward.
So if you’re in the middle of the shit right now, don’t quit. Don’t give in. Stay the course and keep fighting. Start fighting with every breath to see that small glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel. I know that sucks to hear in the middle of despair, but know there’s something to gain.
Here’s how to move forward:
- Tell yourself, “I’m going to look really good coming out of this.”
- Take out a blank page and start writing all the possible ways out of this mess. Don’t restrict your ideas, either…..no bad ideas here.
- Find a trusted person to help you review the best ideas from #2. If you don’t have a trusted person, it’s time to get one. SCORE is an organization where people with loads of business experience volunteer to mentor others. If you’d rather look into a personal coach of some kind, check out the International Coach Federation.
- Once you pick the right path, get to work heading that way. Understand you are not alone.
Whether you feel underneath it all, stuck in the middle or squarely at the top, you are not alone. There’s always people you can lean on to get through the junk. Then when the good times come, they’re so much sweeter because you’ve endured the rough patch.
The key to becoming the next great you lies in overcoming the obstacles.
